The Utility Services of the UK were privatised and sold off for no reason other than for some people (politicians mostly) to make huge financial gain at vast expense to the people of the UK of GB!

The original sales pitch was that the sell-off would encourage huge investment into the utilities - instead it's just given us a third-world system that's crumbling more and more as year after year of neglect takes hold.
